Background
East Asian theatre artists have been collaborated loosely in many occasions and learning from each others in workshops, productions or just from facing the same social and economical changes in this globalize context. Since 2006, four theatre promoters and directors Hiroshi Ohashi, Tong Sze Hong, Wang Mo Lin and Zhao Chuan, from different generations, cities and nationalities, communicated in seeking a possibility of making a straightforward program for ourselves to get together, run workshops and make collaborative works. This proposal has been made as a result in early 2008.
Workshop in Hong Kong
Between 8/17/2008 to 8/23/2008, Hiroshi Ohashi, Tong Sze Hong, Wang Mo Lin and Zhao Chuan will gather with Clash Theater group in Hong Kong. We will spend a week on workshop to do research and exchange ideas of making a collaborative theatre work under four directors. We will work with Clash to study improvisation technique in performance facilitate by Tong Sze Hong.
Touring in Four cities: Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei and Tokyo
According to the Hong Kong workshop, a further program will be worked out by four directors. The results from the workshop will be brought along when more theater workers joined from four cities in Shanghai in later October 2008. A piece of theatre work will be developed under the directors and performed in Shanghai. All directors and performers will travel together to Hong Kong, Taipei and Tokyo through out November. We will have more research and collaboration in these cities to modify and let the work grown with new experiences.
Expecting result
This research and collaboration project with experimental theatre workers from Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei and Tokyo, will able us to cross the different local arts experiences in East Asia, in sharing values and melting together in our collective efforts. Apart from being a great learning opportunity, this project could also be resulted as a dynamic response and great rehearse to the globalization today.
