Main objectives of the École des Sables
Through the workshop, Germaine ACOGNY and her team intend to give first of all a solid technical base to the dancers based on traditional and contemporary african dances and contemporary Western dances. She wants to encourage and dynamise the contemporary African choreographic creation. At the same time she tries to give confidence to the dancers and choreographers to take their destiny in their own hands and work towards autonomy.
The dance spaces
The teaching will take place at two different dance spaces. The first one named “Kër Aloopho” (the house of Aloopho) of 400m² has a sand floor. The second dance space (280m²) “Henriette Bathily” is equipped with a
professional ‘European’ dance floor.
